Abstract
Murshidabad is the district of agricultural importance. It is situated on the Gangetic plain
newlineof the state of West Bengal. Owing to its advantageous geographical location, this district
newlineis of prime focus to the agriculturalists since long. Our work stemmed from the facts that
newlinethe climatic conditions and edaphic factors of the district were highly conducive to the
newlinegrowth of agricultural crops. After having chosen Murshidabad district as the study area,
newlinethe Fusarium was selected as the model fungus on account of its occurrence in primarily
newlinein agricultural soil and also due to a number of its unexplored traits. The present work has
newlinethe following objectives:
newline1. Isolation, identification and characterization of the Fusarium spp. recovered from
newlinedifferent agricultural soil samples across the Murshidabad district
newline2. Evaluation and characterization of the nonpathogenic Fusarium isolates with
newlinerespect to various plant growth promoting traits
newline3. Screening and estimation of heavy metal tolerance potential among Fusarium
newlineisolates, with special reference to PGPF activities under metal stressed conditions
