Abstract

newline Euryale ferox Salisb commonly known as prickly waterlily, is a newlinespiny aquatic plant with circular floating leaves and tough fibrous roots. It newlineis popularly known as Foxnut in English Makhana in Hindi and newline Thangjing in Manipuri. It is normally classified in the water lily family newlineNamphaeaceae. Euryale ferox Salisb is a cash crop grown all over the newlineworld. Unlike other part of India, the foxnut produced in Manipur is used newlineonly as vegetable. Both the young and mature fruits are used in local newlinecuisines.
