Design of Efficient and Reliable Algorithms to Estimate Cardiac Health Information Using PPG Signals Containing Motion Artifacts

Abstract

quotCardiovascular diseases are causing an increase in mortality rate. The increase in the mortality rate is due to a lack of proper resources to monitor health status, especially in remote areas. The risk of cardiovascular disease can be eased by regular monitoring of cardiovascular health for early diagnosis and timely treatment. Vital signs such as heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP) and respiratory rate (RR) are important parameters used to newlinediagnose cardiovascular disease. Accurate analysis of vital signs in realtime helps in the newlineearly diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, non-invasive, accurate monitoring newlineof vital signs with wearable devices has gained significant research interest. newlineThe electrocardiogram (ECG) through electric signals and the photoplethysmography newline(PPG) through optical measurements are the two popular non-invasive methods used to newlinemonitor vital signs. ECG is a dominant monitoring technique to detect irregularities in the newlinecardiovascular system due to its highly accurate and reliable estimation. Despite being a newlinegold-standard technique to analyze HR, wearable and portable ECG monitoring systems newlineare difficult to realize. PPG is a non-invasive optical measurement technique that can newlinedetermine the variations in blood flow synchronously with the heartbeat. Due to its newlinesimplicity, PPG technology has become a popular approach for designing wearable smart newlinehealthcare devices.quot newline newline
