Abstract
Background: Interpersonal psychotherapy is a useful psychosocial intervention
newlinefor mental health nursing practice; however, there is no discussion on of its
newlineinclusion in nursing curriculum.
newlineObjective: The present study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of IPT
newlinetraining on competency of student nurses regarding the administration of IPT.
newlineMethods: The one group pre-test post-test study was conducted on 100 student
newlinenurses from four nursing colleges. An IPT training module for nurses was
newlinedeveloped. One-week training on IPT was given in four groups of 25 students
newlineselected through two-stage cluster sampling. Perceived IPT competency,
newlineKnowledge regarding IPT and IPT competencies of the participants were assessed
newlinebefore and after the IPT training. Descriptive and inferential statistics were
newlineemployed for data analysis using SPSS 20 version.
