Abstract
newline The present research work reports on synthesis of Graphene oxide, TiO 2 and its
newlinereduced graphene oxide (rGO)-TiO 2 binary and Au loaded rGO-TiO 2 ternary nano-
newlineheterostructure photocatalysts. The characterization of the samples in terms of the
newlinestructure, surface composition, optical and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from water
newlinesplitting and the dye mineralisation properties were done. In the application point of view,
newlinethe main objective is to develop a stable TiO 2 , reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-TiO 2 binary
newlineand Au loaded rGO-TiO 2 ternary nanocomposites with useful enhanced photo-catalytic
newlineproperties. In the fundamental part, the motive is to analyze structural and other properties
newlinein correlation to surface interface effect on the charge migration. The bridging of TiO 2
newlinesurface with rGO and Au have been chosen for tailoring the functional properties,
newlineespecially hydrogen evolution and the dye mineralization.
newlineThe structural in terms of X-ray diffraction and microstructure, spectroscopic,
newlineoptical and photo-catalytic properties obtained on these samples under selective
newlineexperimental conditions are presented in four different Chapters 4-7. Chapter-1 gives a
newlinegeneral introduction about the subject of photocatalyst and materials used here.
newlineChapter-2 deals the statement of the problem, review of the literature along with the
newlinemotivation behind selecting this specific class of the work. Chapter-3 describes
newlineexperimental details of the sample preparations in part of the measurements and
newlineanalysis of selective properties. Chapters-4 deals with the phase formation and
newlinestructural analysis.
