This research explores the effectiveness of a researcher-developed training program aimed at enhancing assertive communication among staff nurses in India. In Phase 1, qualitative data is gathered through in-depth interviews with nurses and other healthcare stakeholders to understand their perceptions, experiences, and challenges associated with assertive communication within the Indian healthcare setting. The program covers key concepts, skill-building exercises, role-plays, and strategies for overcoming hierarchical and cultural obstacles. Its effectiveness is measured in a quasi-experimental study involving 100 staff nurses assigned to experimental and control groups. Assessment using a modified Functional Assertiveness Scale reveals statistically significant improvements in assertive communication scores among nurses who received the intervention, while the control group shows minimal change. newlineThe findings underscore the critical role of assertive communication in improving patient safety, self-esteem of practicing nurses, and professional relationships, and demonstrate that a structured training program can meaningfully enhance these skills among Indian nurses. The thesis advocates for the incorporation of asser
