Abstract
The present study Inland fisheries in Andhra Pradesh A management appraisal
newlinewas conducted at UAS, Dharwad. Multistage random sampling procedure was adopted in the
newlinestudy. Based on production of inland fisheries in Andhra Pradesh, four districts were selected
newlinepurposively viz., East-Godavari, West-Godavari, Krishna and Nellore. In each district, 30
newlinefarmers and five private aqua-farms were selected randomly for the study for both carps and
newlinevannamei (shrimp) production aspects. For studying marketing aspects, total of 120 market
newlinefunctionaries were selected. Similarly for studying consumer behaviour with respect to fish
newlineand fish products, 60 consumers were selected from each district. Primary data were collected
newlinethrough well-structured schedule by personal interview method, for the year 2019-20.
newlineSecondary data on fisheries production in the districts of Andhra Pradesh and India were
newlinecollected from various published sources. Compound Annual Growth Rate, financial
newlinefeasibility analysis, price spread, marketing efficiency and Garrett s ranking techniques were
newlineemployed for analyzing the data.
newlineIn India, the compound annual growth rate for the years 2000-01 to 2019-20 in
newlineproduction of marine, inland and total fish production increased significantly with 1.79, 6.85
newlineand 4.89 per cent per annum respectively. In Andhra Pradesh, the corresponding figures
newlineobserved were 6.84, 11.36 and 10.33 per cent per annum, respectively. The total cost of carp
newlineproduction by farmers and private aqua-farms per acre were 3,26,696.00 and 3,03,688.00,
newlinerespectively. The variable cost accounted for 75.90 per cent in farmers and 73.98 per cent in
newlineprivate aqua-farms. Similarly, the shares of fixed cost were 24.10 and 26.02 per cent,
newlinerespectively. Likewise, total cost of production of vannamei (shrimp) per acre were
newline5,39.707.00 and 5,48,447.00 in farmers and private aqua-farms, respectively. Of which, the
newlinerespective shares of variable and fixed cost were 81.00 and 19.00 per cent in farmers and
newline80.72 and 19.28 per cent in private aqua-farms. Productio
