Comparative evaluation of the post instrumentation pain levels after using three different niti cleaning and shaping system a randomised clinical trial

Abstract

Abstract newlineIntroduction newlineEndodontic post operative discomfort is defined as any degree of pain that occurs after newlineendodontic treatment. This phenomenon in literature is known as flare-up, which is newlinecharacterised by the development of pain, swelling or both, beginning within a few newlinehours or days after the procedure. This randomised, controlled trial evaluated the newlineincidence of postoperative pain on using two groups of different reciprocating Ni Ti newlinefiles and one group of rotary Ni Ti cleaning and shaping systems in patients with newlineirreversible pulpitis undergoing endodontic treatment. newlineMaterials and Methods newlineAfter sample size estimation, a total of 180 patients were randomised to three groups newline(Group A [ProTaper Universal], Group B [WaveOne] and Group C [Reciproc Blue]). newlineSelection of patients was based on gender, root curvature, periapical lesion, vitality newlineand diagnosis of the patient. A clinical protocol of root canal therapy was followed newlineand endodontic treatment was performed. Pre and post operative pain scores (6, 12, newlineand 48 hours) were recorded using Visual analog scale scores. Kruskal Wallis test newlinewas done for overall comparison of the groups. Bonferroniand#8208;corrected Mann Whitney newlinetest was done for pairand#8208;wise comparisons and Friedman test was done to compare pain newlinebetween different time points in each file system (P lt 0.05). newlineResults newlineAll pre instrumentation pain values were higher than post instrumentation pain values newline(P lt 0.05). At 48 hours, patients in Group B and Group C experienced more pain newlinecompared to Group A. However, there was no statistical significant difference among newlinethe three groups after 6 and 24 hours. newlineConclusion newlinePatients treated with Protaper gold files experienced less pain when compared to the newlineother files.
