dc.description.abstractOn the basis of numerous studies, nanoparticles (NPs) have shown great promise for newlineapplications in water and wastewater treatment.However, NPs have limitations such newlineas aggregation, instability under destructive conditions, difficult in isolation and newlinerecovery from the reaction mixture. Moreover, the presence of surfactants and newlineunstable supports results in change of shape, size composition and reactivity of newlinenanocatalysts. newlineAttempts are being made to replace the use of harmful surfactants or reagents by newlinesemiconductors in the due course of nanoparticle synthesis.The different properties of newlinethe compound semiconductors can be tailored by the synthesis method, size control, newlinechange in the precursors, using different complexing agents, etc. Therefore, it is an newlineimportant issue to develop economical, scalable and green chemical approaches for newlinepreparing highly active, recyclable and stable nanomaterials. newlineZinc oxide (ZnO) is well-known semiconductor photocatalyst due to newlineitsfavorable properties including good transparency, high electron mobility, wide newlinebandgap, and strong roomtemperatureluminescence, etc. At the same time, ZnONPs newlineas photocatalyst also suffers several problems like wider bandgap of ZnO for electron newlinetransition, which makes it only respond to the ultraviolet region of sunlight, and the newlineultraviolet region only occupies a ratio of 5 7% sunlight. To expand the region of newlinelight response, modification of ZnOnanopowders is essential.Doping is an effective newlinemethod of modifying ZnO appears such as band gap, electrical conductivity, lattice newlineparameter, magnetic properties, and sensing capabilities. newlineThe increasing release of dye-polluted wastewater and pathogenic newlinemicroorganisms into aquatic environments poses significant risks to public health and newlineecological stability. In this study, Fe-, Co-, and Zr-doped ZnO nanoparticles were newlinesynthesized via a combustion-assisted sol-gel method to enhance photocatalytic and newlineantibacterial performance under visible light.
