Synthesis and characterization of green silver nanoparticles and their efficacy in wound healing an invitro and invivo study

Abstract

Phytoconstituents of plants had enormous therapeutic potential against skin wounds. Plants like Tecoma stans, Manilkara zapota and Cassia fistula were some which had the ability to heal wounds. Qualitative analysis was performed to confirm the presence of phytoconstituents like flavonoids, saponins and tannins in solvents: aqueous ethanol and methanol. Results of antimicrobial activity clearly stated that methanol extract of the Cassia fistula flowers at increasing concentration showed the maximum zone of inhibition of 27 mm at 100 and#956;l (antibacterial assay) and 18 mm at 100 and#956;l (anti-fungal assay). They had higher potential against the selective microbes Staphylococcus aureus and Aspergillus niger. newlineThe combination of C.fistula flowers and C.fistula leaves; C.fistula flowers and M.zapota leaves showed a maximum zone of inhibition of 23 mm and 21 mm for antibacterial; 22 mm and 23 mm for antifungal at 100 and#956;l respectively. In the polyherbal solution, C. fistula flowers enhanced the antimicrobial activity with the other plant samples by an increase in zone of inhibition (25 mm at 100 and#956;l) than the individual plant extracts which elucidate the synergism effect. newlineIn this investigation, the polyherbal extract was used to green synthesise silver nanoparticles. The silver nanoparticles were then characterised by the UV - visible spectrophotometer, FTIR and SEM analysis. The antibacterial assay of polyherbal silver nanoparticles (PSN) in the case of Staphylococcus aureus, showed its maximum zone of inhibition. Wound investigation was studied on the 4 groups of rat models namely group I (negative control), II (povidone-iodine), III (polyherbal crude extract) and IV (polyherbal silver nanoparticles). Oxidative stress analysis, in terms of LPO (lipid peroxidase), SOD (superoxide dismutase) and CAT (catalase) was reported, where the PSN in the blood activates the antioxidant enzyme which functions against oxidative stress by increasing the enzyme secretions with their assayed results at *p lt 0.01and #plt0.01 level of significance
