Abstract
Metal carboxylates are an important family of compounds that include mono-, di-, and polycarboxylates of transition, rare-earth, and main-group metals, as well as a variety of hybrid structures. The field of inorganic chemistry is dominated by transition metal carboxylates. The discovery of the fascinating structures with different dimensionalities continues to spark the interest of scientists in this field. Some of them also possess novel adsorption, magnetic, catalytic, etc. properties. Dicarboxylates provide an effective means of designing polynuclear complexes with attractive properties. This thesis primarily focuses on the synthetic and applicative aspects of some transition metal dicarboxylates. Dicarboxylic acids with varying nature of the spacer moiety between the two carboxylate groups have been selected. The dicarboxylic acids chosen are 2,2and#8242;- thiodiacetic acid and acetylene dicarboxylic acid.
