Design and Development of IoT Based Automated Plant Growth Monitoring System for Vertical Farm

Abstract

Agriculture plays an important role in the economic sector that contributes to a nation s newlineoverall economic development. As per the report of the Food and Agriculture Organisation newline(FAO) United Nations, there will be a tremendous food demand globally which is expected to newlinerise by 70% by 2050. Also in the Indian economy, the agriculture sector plays an important newlinerole and contributes roughly 14% of the Indian GDP. On the other hand, India is also becoming newlinethe most populated country (currently at the second position) and is likely to surpass China. In newlineIndia, Punjab being the most developed state for agriculture practice compared to other states newlineplays a crucial role in the agro-economy of India. However, recently Punjab is facing issues newlineof depleting groundwater, stubble burning, locust attacks, and climate changes. Thus, it is newlinebecoming a challenging task for conventional agriculture. newlineKeeping in view all the above factors, this research focused on studying and implementing newlinethe latest agricultural practices such as soil-less agriculture techniques viz., Vertical farming, newlinehydroponics, aeroponics, and aquaponics that help farmers to overcome the above challenges newlinecompared to conventional farming. These are also useful in increasing the yield per unit area newlinewith no soil and limited use of land and water. newline
