Abstract
Machining is a secondary manufacturing process in which the material is removed to get the
newlinefinal size and shape of the component with the aid of the cutting tool. It is a plastic
newlinedeformation process affecting the material physically and metallurgically. There are several
newlinenew steel materials developed in industries and these materials have excellent mechanical
newlineproperties but poor in machinability. The Duplex stainless steel-2205 is one such advanced
newlinematerial with nearly equal proportions of austenite and ferrite. This combination makes the
newlinealloy to be stronger, tougher and excessive corrosion resistance than standard austenitic steels.
newlineDuplex stainless steels with Fe-Ni-Cr composition have wide variety of applications in
newlinechemical, food processing, marine, storage tanks, oil industry, heat exchangers, cargo tanks
newlinefor sheep, rotors, and fans. The machining of DSS-2205 is very poor and 10-20% slower than
newlinefor other steel alloys due to high strain hardening, low thermal conductivity, heat
newlineconcentration on the cutting edges, high toughness and sticking nature during machining.
newlineThe machinability of material will be judged by basic performance traits such as cutting
newlineforce, cutting temperature, surface finish, tool wear rate, tool life and material removal rate.
newlineThese factors are strongly correlated with cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate,
newlineDepth of cut and cutting fluids. The applications of cutting fluids in any machining
newlineoperations reduce the friction b/w tool and work, tool and chip, temperature developed in the
newlinemachining zone. It acts as a lubricant and improves the surface finish of the component.
newlineIn order to improve the machinability of difficult to cut steel alloys the cutting fluids and its
newlineapplication method plays a very important role. The MQL method gives the promising
newlinesolution providing more effectiveness on output response with minimum quantity of fluid. To
