dc.description.abstractBackground newlinePeriodontitis is a polymicrobial, multifactorial inflammatory disease causing destruction of tooth supporting structures. Nanotechnology, particularly green synthesized nanoparticles, offers a biocompatible and sustainable local drug delivery approach. newlineObjective newlineTo synthesize zinc oxide ZnO and selenium Se nanoparticles using Terminalia arjuna bark extract, develop nanogel formulations, and evaluate their potential as local drug delivery systems in periodontitis. newlineMaterials and Methods newlineZnO and Se nanoparticles were synthesized by green synthesis using T. arjuna extract and characterized by UV Visible spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, and XRD. Antimicrobial activity, anti inflammatory activity, antioxidant activity and cytotoxicity were assessed and healing potential was analyzed by in vitro scratch assay. Nanogels incorporating ZnO and Se nanoparticles were formulated. newlineResults newlineBoth nanoparticles were successfully synthesized with desirable physicochemical properties. ZnO showed stronger antimicrobial activity, while Se nanoparticles exhibited higher antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential. Both were biocompatible within therapeutic concentrations. Scratch assays demonstrated enhanced fibroblast migration and wound healing. Nanogels provided sustained drug release and showed cumulative therapeutic efficacy. newlineConclusion newlineGreen-synthesized ZnO and Se nanoparticle-based nanogels demonstrate promising antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti inflammatory effects with good biocompatibility. They hold strong potential as adjunctive local drug delivery systems for the effective management of chronic periodontitis newline
