Abstract

Schizophrenia can affect a person so severely that they are unable to take care of themselves At such circumstances, the role of a caregiver or family becomes important The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of nurse led caregiver empowerment program on stress coping and quality of life among caregivers of patient with schizophrenia A randomized controlled trial was done in psychiatric ward and OPD SRH among 150 samples study group equal to 75 control group equal to 75 The pre test and post test I II III was done on 30 60 and 90 day The perceived stress scale coping checklist and WHO brief tools were used to collect data from the caregivers of patient with schizophrenia The data were analyzed using descriptive and The results revealed that there was a statistically significant difference found in the mean stress scores at p less than 0 point 05 of the study group between posttests 2 and three coping scores at post test 2 p equal to 0 point 03 and post test 3 p less than 0 point 003 between the study group and the control group There was a statistically significant difference noted in the mean scores of quality of life in all domains at p less than 0 point .05 between the pre tests and the post tests among caregivers of patient with schizophrenia in the study group There was a statistically significant difference in the mean scores of Quality of life Psychological Domain 2 between the pre test and the posttest 1 among caregivers of patient with schizophrenia in control group p equal to 0 point 001 in quality of life Social relationship Domain 3 between the pre test and the posttest I p equal to 0 point 001 the pretest and the posttest 2 p equal to 0 point 02 and in quality of life Environment Domain 4 between the pretest and the posttest 1 p equal to 0 point 01 pre test and post test 2 p equal to 0 point 001 in the control group There was a significant association between level of stress and education among caregivers in the control group There was a significant association between coping scores and
