Abstract
The present investigation entitled Analysis of uniformity and stability of
newlineBrinjal (Solanum melongena L.) crosses in Fand#8327; generation for morphological
newlinetraits and yield was carried out during 2022 to 2023 at College of Horticulture,
newlineDr. Y.S.R Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem. The study was
newlinedesigned with two experiments laid out in Randomized Block Design.
newlineThe experiment- I was laid out to identify uniform and stable populations in
newline17 F7 plant progenies selected from F6 generation. Analysis of variance revealed
newlinethat out of seventeen F7 progenies, 10 progenies viz., T1, T2, T3, T6, T7, T10, T11, T13,
newlineT16 and T17 showed the homozygous and homogenous nature for all 15 quantitative
newlinecharacters whereas, variation was observed in seven progenies viz., T4, T5, T8 T9, T12,
newlineT14 and T15. Here, T9 and T12 showed variation for the characters plant height (cm)
newlineand number of primary branches. The variation for these vegetative parameters in
newlinethese populations might be due to management practices and the environment and
newlinehence these considered for the estimation of mean performance.
newlineThe experiment-and#8545; was laid out to evaluate the mean performance for these
newlineselected 12 F8 brinjal populations viz, T1, T2, T3, T6, T7, T9, T10, T11, T12, T13, T16 and
newlineT17 including two checks namely Pennada and Arka Harshitha for all 15 quantitative
newlineand biochemical characters (Phenols (mg 100 g-1
newline) and Ascorbic acid (mg 100 g-1
newline)).
newlineFurther, they were evaluated for qualitative characters like flower colour, fruit
newlinecolour, fruit shape and also observed for the incidence of pest (fruit and shoot borer
newlineinfestation %) and incidence of disease (little leaf incidence %).
newlineBased on mean performance, maximum plant height was recorded in T11
newline(100.14 cm). A significant number of primary branches was observed in T16 (8.42)
newlinewhich is another yield increasing trait in brinjal. The maximum number of flowers
newlineper inflorescence was observed in T17 (5.34). T16 (39.57 days) was observed as the
newlineearliest to flower. The maximum fruit length was significantly recorded i
