Abstract

The effectiveness of graphics and animation in television news broadcasting, with a specific focus newlineon audience reception, editorial practices, and technological transitions within the Indian media newlinelandscape. Anchored in a mixed-methods approach, the study integrates a quantitative survey of newline500 viewers from the Bhopal division of Madhya Pradesh and qualitative interviews with 10 media newlineprofessionals, including production heads and graphic designers. The investigation draws upon newlineVisual Communication Theory and Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT) to analyze how visual newlineelements such as lower thirds, infographics, virtual sets, and animated explainers, shape viewer newlinecomprehension, emotional engagement, and perceptions of credibility. newlineFindings from the quantitative data reveal that a significant majority of viewers associate highquality newlinevisuals with improved understanding and heightened interest, particularly in segments newlineinvolving complex or data-heavy content like elections, economic news, and weather reports. newlineMoreover, younger demographics show a marked preference for visually rich formats, suggesting newlineevolving content expectations. The qualitative data further contextualizes these insights by newlinehighlighting the newsroom s increasing reliance on visuals for narrative depth, branding, and realtime newlinecommunication. However, professionals also identified key challenges, including budget newlineconstraints, technological gaps, and the risk of visual saturation or sensationalism, particularly in newlineregional contexts. newlineThe study underscores that graphics and animation function not merely as aesthetic enhancements
