| dc.description.abstract | The stability of power system is one of the most vital aspects in newlineelectrical system operation One of the major problems in modern newlineinterconnected power systems is related to the small signal oscillatory newlineinstability caused by the presence of low frequency electromechanical newlineoscillations in the system Low frequency oscillations 012Hz in a power newlinesystem can drive the system to unstable state if proper damping measures are newlinenot considered The most cost effective way of mitigating this instability newlineproblem is to use supplementary controllers called Power System Damping newlineController to provide additional damping to the electromechanical newlineoscillations experienced in power systems The main objective of this thesis work is to enhance the small newlinesignal stability of hydel and steam power systems by designing and newlineimplementing Bioinspired Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm newlineOptimization PSO based optimal damping controllers to damp the newlineelectromechanical oscillations experienced in both hydel and steam power newlinesystems newline newline | en_US |
