| dc.description.abstract | From the last few years, numbers of laboratories all over the world have been working on handwriting recognition. Handwriting recognition is a difficult problem due to the different handwriting styles and size of the characters etc. The work carried out in this thesis addresses the problem of handwritten word recognition for Gurmukhi script and its mapping with Devanagari script. Gurmukhi script is used to write Punjabi language. This language is one of the official languages of India. This thesis is divided into five chapters.
