dc.description.abstractThe study titled Society and Culture of Shimla Hill States during Mid-Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries: A Case Study of Bushahr State aims to explore the social and cultural dynamics of the Shimla hill states as well as Bushahr. The research seeks to address the lack of comprehensive studies on the societal and cultural aspects of these regions. The study is also a survey of Bushahr state with its conceived customs, traditions and beliefs. The research work has been divided into V chapters. Introduction which is divided into two section, Section A of the chapter is introductory in nature. Section B deals with review of literature. Caste system focuses on caste prevalent in the Shimla hill states. The chapter underlines the relationships between different castes and also covers internal conflict. Data collected during the field study regarding the status of caste in Bushahr. Religious beliefs and practices highlights the rituals, sermons, veneration, sacrifices, fairs and festivals etc. Status of Women in deals with the customs and marriage ceremonies, education etc. in Shimla hill states and Bushahr. Patriarchy was the structure. Polygamy and Polyandry were being followed in the past and still exit in remote tribal areas of Bushahr. Conclusion consolidates the findings, offering a comprehensive overview of the socio-cultural life. The study aims to provide a thorough understanding of the complex social fabric and cultural heritage of the region, filling gaps in historical research and contributing to further scholarly exploration. newline
