The present work focuses especially on the synthesis of compounds, composite materials and highly hindered complexes of cobalt and studies their thermal and catalytic properties. newlineIn this work, synthesis of phosphate containing mixtures of cobalt compounds in two different forms viz. calcined and non calcined form along with their composite materials and complexes with highly hindered chelating ligands has been undertaken. Syntheses of these mixtures have been done in atmospheric conditions and are characterized by various analytical techniques such as CHNS analysis, ICP-OES analysis, FT-IR, FE-SEM, UV-Vis-NIR, X-ray diffraction study, ESI-MS, GLC, TGA, DTA, DTG etc.. Thermal study was carried out by using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) for the mixtures and their composite materials in different thermal cycles with varied temperature range. newlineThe composite materials were synthesized by mixing both calcined as well as non calcined materials with building coating materials such as wall care putty, decorating paint, solar paint, CaCO3, adhesive glue and solar black paint. Study of thermal properties of composite materials has been studied in two different thermal cycles. From the DSC analysis, it has been concluded that these mixtures are showing different thermal behaviour in two thermal cycles. Composite materials exhibiting endothermic behaviour can be utilized as thermal energy storage materials, whereas materials showing exothermic behaviour can be used as heat dissipating materials. newlineIn the second part of the work, cobalt chloride hexa hydrate was treated with di-methoxy Ethane (DME as a ligand) to get the complex. The resulted complex was treated with Sn(IV) oxide powder. Hydrogen gas released from the ethanolic medium was quantified from the reaction in presence of Co-Sn composite. newline
