Distribution and Growth of Small Towns in Madhya Pradesh A Geographical Study

Abstract

The journey of the development of a region entails the progress of small units and geographical entities that grow according to their inherent nature. In a large State like Madhya Pradesh the journey to development and growth is a story of the development of its small towns. These towns have, over, the decades, undergone metamorphosis from their original sizes and characteristics to become smaller or larger, obtain changed facets due to the addition of infrastructural inputs and the attainment of specific socio-economic features of a small town that, when taken in a collective, are what make the region what it actually is. newlineThe small towns have special attributes that give them a certain identity. Interestingly, however, there have been many towns that have together given a larger identity to a region and finally the State. Geographically, these towns have tremendous significance. Their formation and growth as well as their size have made the town s valuable contributors to the growth and development of various regions as well larger urban agglomerations. This has formed the basic premise of the present research work. newline
