Birth of a healthy newborn is one of the finest gifts of nature. The process of birth takes only a few hours but it is the most hazardous period of life since it is associated with largest number of deaths as compared to any other phase of life. Mother acts an important role to identify the minor developmental changes and early stage of disease condition. The researcher has undertaken this study by giving adequate information on knowledge and practice of neonatal care to bring healthy children in this world. OBJECTIVES: 1. To assess the level of knowledge on neonatal care among experimental and control group primigravida mothers before implementation of video teaching programme. 2. To implement the video teaching programme on neonatal care among experimental group primigravida mothers. 3. To evaluate the effectiveness of video teaching programme on neonatal care among primigravida mothers. 4 To associate the post-test scores with selected demographic variables of both experimental and control group primigravida mothers. 5. To correlate the post-test knowledge with practice of both experimental and control group primigravida mothers. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Under the true experimental design pre and post-test control group design was adopted to this study. The sample size was 266 (147 experimental group and 119 control group) primigravida mothers from 6 urban health maternity centres, Coimbatore. Simple random sampling technique was adopted in this study. RESULTS: Highest percentage of experimental group mothers (50%) and control group mothers (49%) were from 21-25 years of age. 46 percentage of experimental group mothers and 41 percentage of control group mothers had secondary education. CONCLUSION: Majority of the experimental and control group mothers had inadequate level of knowledge on neonatal care in pre-test. After implementation of video teaching programme on neonatal care majority of the primigravida mothers from experimental group had excellent knowledge and fully adoptive practice of neonatal care.
