Modern duplex stainless steel (DSS), generally contains equal percentage of austenite and ferrite in their microstructure. In comparison to other grades of steel, DSS exhibit higher value of tensile strength and more corrosion resistance. Due to balanced structure of ferrite and austenite, DSS shows isotropic nature. From fusion weld of DSS, the microstructure variation in weld metal s (WM s) heat affected zone (HAZ) and fuzion zone (FZ) can be reported. The HAZ s microstructure is completely ferritic. Due to changing price of Ni, year on year, the DSS is getting more demand. DSS is having more sustainability as compared to austenitic stainless steel (ASS), which is the main cause for using DSS in industries. In many corrosive environment DSS gives better performance due to half percentage of ferrite and austenite. newlineDSS generally contributes a major role in lot of engineering applications due to its desirable combination of strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance which is primarily due to their combined lattice arrangement (comprising of BCC and FCC structures). The applications of DSS include production of offshore gas and oil pipelines, pipes in desalination plants, ocean mining equipment, chemical containers of ships, fasteners for marine equipment, pulp and paper industries and many more. Out of the various available grades of DSSs, Type 2205 (UNS S32205) is found to be most familiar and reliable. newline newline
