Advanced oxidation processes for removal of organic dyes from aqueous solution textile effluent and adsorbent surface

Abstract

In the recent years, the release of pollutants from the industries to the environment has newlinebecome a major issue. The carcinogenic and hazardous organic synthetic dyes released newlinefrom the textile industries are one of the major reasons for the contamination of water newlinebodies. These organic synthetic dyes can pollute the surface and underground water by newlineincreasing the chemical oxygen demand (COD) which enhances a risk to the aquatic newlinelife. Hence, the treatment of textile effluents is of significance for mineralizing the newlineorganics into unharmful components. There is an urgent need for the development of newlinenew techniques for the removal of organic synthetic dyes present in the different forms. newlineFor example, the organic synthetic dyes may be present either in a dissolved form in newlineground / surface water or in a textile effluent or on the surface of a solid adsorbent. newlineIn the present thesis, we primarily focus on the development of stand-alone and newlineintegrated advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) such as the Fenton-like, ultrasound newline(US) cavitation, ozone (O3) as well as the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and newlinephotocatalytic activity (PCA) for the removal of organic synthetic dyes present in the newlineaqueous solution and textile effluent as well as on the surface of solid adsorbent. newline
