Abstract
The concept of meditation is a practice that has been used for a long period of time.
newlineHowever, different people usually carry the concept of meditation for a different purpose.
newlineSome form of meditation is just simple and are just used by ordinary people just to attain a
newlinemoment of relaxation or to reduce stress. However, some concepts of meditation are
newlinecomplex such as Samand#257;dhi. Nevertheless, some are religious-oriented while others are
newlinesecular in nature. However, there is a lot that has been done in the field of science to try
newlineand explain the scientific explanation of meditation. But over the years, the aspect of
newlinemeditation such as Samand#257;dhi has remained controversial with no proper scientific
newlineexplanation.
newlineThe principles of Dhand#257;raand#7751;and#257;, Dhyand#257;na, and Samand#257;dhi hold immense importance within Indian
newlinephilosophical traditions. These profound practices are extensively discussed in the
newlinePrasthand#257;natrayand#299;, which comprises the foundational texts of Vedand#257;nta. Dhand#257;raand#7751;and#257; involves
newlinedirecting and focusing the mind on a specific object, while Dhyand#257;na denotes the meditative
newlinestate that arises from sustained concentration. Samand#257;dhi represents the pinnacle of
newlineconsciousness attained through the practice of Dhyand#257;na, wherein the individual transcends
newlinepersonal identity and attains complete absorption in the object of meditation. These three
newlinepractices are intricately interconnected and should be cultivated sequentially. The
newlinecomprehensive exploration of Dhand#257;raand#7751;and#257;, Dhyand#257;na, and Samand#257;dhi is expounded in the
newlinePrasthand#257;natrayand#299;, encompassing the Yogasand#363;tra, Brahmasand#363;tra, and Upaniand#7779;ad, thereby
newlineproviding a profound understanding of their significance in the Indian philosophical
newlinetraditions.
