dc.description.abstractRice belongs to the genus Oryza, of the family Poaceae or Gramineae. India newlineranks second in terms of rice area and production. Rice production is affected by several newlinebiotic and abiotic factors. Among the biotic factors, diseases like blast, sheath blight, newlinebacterial leaf blight and tungro are the major production constraints. Rice sheath blight newlineis caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn [teleomorph: Thanatephorus cucumeris (Frank) newlineDonk] and ranks next to blast in terms of economic damage. The disease is widespread newlineand occurs in all rice growing areas of world. In view of unavailability of resistance newlinesources and lack of information on sheath blight disease proteomics, the present newlineresearch was undertaken to identify the resistant rice germplasm for sheath blight and newlinedecipher the proteome involved in rice- R. solani interaction. newlineA total of 119 rice germplasm were screened artificially against R. solani using newlineagar block inoculation technique along with BPT-5204 and Tetep as susceptible and newlineresistant check, respectively. Three landraces, Nizam Shait, Byeleria and Kiruvanna newlinewere found to be resistant with a relative lesion height percentage range of 9.86 to 17.19 newline(grade 1). Six moderately resistant landraces were identified viz., Bidar Local 2, newlineHonasu, Jaggu Varatiga, Jeeraga-2, Jeersali, Tetep with disease scores ranging between newline21-30 per cent. Further, Nizam Shait and BPT-5204 were used as sheath blight resistant newlineand susceptible sources for comparative proteome analysis through Orbitrap- Fusion newlinemass spectrometry. A total of 5133 differentially expressed proteins were identified out newlineof which, 118 were significantly upregulated and 172 were significantly downregulated newlineat 0.05 p-value. The identified significantly upregulated and downregulated proteins newlinewere divided into functional categories such as metabolic process, cellular process, newlineinteraction between organisms, localization, response to stimulus, biological regulation, newlinedevelopmental and multi-organismal process, signalling and defense related proteins. newlineOut of 118 significa
