Abstract
The present investigation was undertaken to analyse genetic variation of
newlinephysiological response in Jamunapari goats at population level. In this study, total
newline1603 observations from 75 sires were recorded for Jamunapari goats during different
newlineperiods. The different environmental parameters were recorded during study period.
newlineThe THI range varied from 82.00 to 92.08 during hot period, 49.96 to 59.68 during
newlinecold period and 65.32 to 74.00 during thermo-neutral period. Physiological responses
newlinewere recorded for 695 animals during the hot periods, 617 animals during the cold
newlineperiod and 291 animals during thermo-neutral period. The sire means of HSS and
newlineHST families were different by 19.737 in RR and 31.438 in HR in the population. RR
newlineand HR were significantly different (plt0.01) between heat stress-susceptible and
newlinetolerant phenotype. However, RT was not significantly different (plt0.01) between
newlineheat stress-susceptible and tolerant phenotype. The heritability of RT, RR and HR
newlinewere 0.18 ± 0.058, 0.077 ± 0.044 and 0.307 ± 0.076 respectively, in combined data
newlineset. Genetic correlation between RT and HR was high and ranged for 0.866 to 0.990
newlinewith low standard error in hot, cold and combined data set. The h2
newlineof RT, RR and HR
newlinewas 0.363 ± 0.119, 0.201 ± 0.097 and 0.362 ± 0.119 with precise error during hot
newlineperiod, which was higher than combined period. HR and RR had moderate
newlineheritability during hot period. The estimate of heritability (h2
newline) was significant for both
newlinehot and cold period. Similarly, heritability for different age group was analysed
newlineseparately. The genetic correlation between RT and HR was high and positive during
newlinehot and cold period as well as in combined data set. However, the genetic correlation
newlinebetween RT with RR and RR with HR was low and negative with high standard error.
