Utility of inferior vena cava collapsibility index in predicting intraoperative hypotension for elective surgeries

Abstract

newlineBackground and Objectives: newlineThe Inferior Vena Cava Collapsibility Index (IVCCI) has been identified as a newlinepotential predictive tool for hypotension in patients undergoing elective surgeries newlineunder general anesthesia (GA). This study aims to validate the prognostic value of newlineIVCCI in predicting perioperative hypotension, thereby enhancing the management of newlinefluid therapy and improving patient outcomes. newlineMaterials and Methods: newlineThis prospective observational study measured the IVCCI in patients scheduled for newlineelective surgery under GA, using ultrasonography before anesthesia induction. newlineParameters assessed included the collapsibility of the inferior vena cava as a predictor newlineof hypotension post-induction. newlineResults: newlineThe study demonstrated that a threshold IVCCI value could reliably predict the newlineoccurrence of hypotension following anesthesia induction. Patients with a higher newlineIVCCI were more likely to experience hypotension, validating the efficacy of IVCCI newlineas a predictive measure.It is noteworthy that 43 patients had IVCCI of more than 50 newlinepercent who had a BP drop of about 46 percent post Anaesthesia induction. newlineConclusion: newlineIVCCI is an effective and non-invasive tool that can predict hypotension in patients newlineunder GA, which can significantly enhance perioperative care and patient safety.
