Electricity demand is increasing day by day and grid connected photovoltaic systems are gaining so much of attention because of depletion of traditional energy assets. Renewable-Energy sources such as solar and wind energy systems seems to be the most promising and attractive solutions and gaining more attention both in research and industrial communities. These non-conventional energy resources, photovoltaic energy becomes a promising alternative source to the conventional energy sources due to its extensive advantages such as omnipresent, freely available, has less operational and maintenance costs and environment friendly, More importantly, usage of conventional sources pollute the environment and cause to rise global warming. newlineThe multifunctional grid connected PV inverters are having ample of features like power quality enhancement like mitigation of current harmonics, reactive power burden, power factor improvement in three-phase four wire and three-phase three-wire supply system. The PV inverters feed the active power to grid during PV generation at the day time and when the PV generation is off at night time, the same inverters work as a shunt active power filter (SAPF). A comprehensive review on multifunctional grid connected inverter topologies, control techniques; state of art, performance, design considerations, key challenges, future aspects, power quality issues, etc. is presented in research. A general introduction to grid integrated renewable energy sources and particularly the grid connected inverters and comparison of multifunctional inverter system is given in the first chapter. An outline of the grid integration principles and the associated technical issues are outlined. The general terms and definitions associated with Power Quality and grid integration of renewable sources are also presented.
