dc.description.abstractThe present study is aimed to investigate academic procrastination in relation to self efficacy, perceived parenting style and social media usage on a sample of 516 students of class XI from government senior secondary schools of different districts from Malwa region of Punjab. Findings of the study revealed that perceived parenting style of majority of students is democratic parenting style; favorable social media usage device is mobile phone; students are active users of social media from last 1 to 2 years, daily using social media for 2 to 3 hours and mostly at night; preferred social media usage site is Facebook followed by YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram and Snapchat. Results revealed significant negative relationship of academic procrastination with self efficacy, perceived democratic parenting style along with its dimensions; information gathering and academics dimensions of social media usage and significant positive relationship with perceived authoritarian parenting style along with its dimensions; social media usage along with its dimensions viz. self presentation, socialization and entertainment. Results also added that academic procrastination is more in male students while self efficacy of female students is more than male students; female students perceive their parents to be more democratic while male students perceive them to be more authoritarian. Social media usage in total and for self presentation, socialization and entertainment dimensions is higher in male students while for academics is higher in female students; academic procrastination is more in male students having perceived authoritarian parenting style than female students; academic procrastination is more in students having authoritarian perceived parenting style than students having democratic perceived parenting style and prediction of academic procrastination based on the conjoint effect of self-efficacy and social media usage is higher as compared to their independent prediction. newline
