Guilt Complex and Knowledge on Adoptive Measures of Child Care among Working Mothers

Abstract

A quasi experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) module on guilt complex and knowledge on adoptive measures of child care between primi and multiparous working mothers of underprivileged community, Valparai, Coimbatore district. 400 samples (100 in each group- study and control group of primiparous mothers, study and control group of multiparous working mothers) were selected by multistage random sampling technique. Pretest posttest design was adopted. Interview and questionnaire method followed to collect demographic data, scale to assess the guilt of mothers by Modified Beck inventory scale and questionnaire on knowledge on adoptive measures of child care. Study group of mothers received IEC module. Control group received no intervention. The result shows that there was decrease in guilt complex and increase in knowledge on adoptive measures of child care among study group of both primi and multiparous mothers at (plt0.001). Multiparous mothers had decreased guilt and improved knowledge compared to primiparous mothers. The study concluded that IEC module is effective in reducing the level of guilt complex and improving the knowledge on adoptive measures of child care.
