An open labelled 12 weeks study to evaluate usefulness of AMMI VISNAGA mother tincture in mild to moderate cases of bronchial asthama

Abstract

Background Asthma is becoming a serious global health problem affecting all age newlinegroups with an estimated 300 million affected individuals worldwide. Its prevalence is newlineincreasing especially among children is a matter of concern today as it is estimated newlinethat asthma causes 346,000 deaths worldwide every year yet there are so many newlinequestions unanswered when it comes to the treatment. newlineAim and Objectives The aim of the study was to evaluate usefulness of newlinehomoeopathic medicine Ammi visnaga mother tincture in mild to moderate cases of newlinebronchial asthma. Objectives were - to assess changes in FEV1 values (before and newlineafter treatment) by using spirometry and to assess improvement in the severity of newlineclinical symptoms of asthma by using ACT score before and after treatment. newlineDesign An open labelled, experimental, interventional, uncontrolled study was newlineconducted on mild to moderate cases of Bronchial Asthma. newlineiii | P a g e newlineMaterials and Methodology A nine months study (from enrolment of first case in newlinethe study till the last visit of last case but an individual case was kept in the study for newlineonly 12 weeks) was conducted on patients coming to OPD of M. N. Homoeopathic newlineMedical College and Research Institute and M. N. Hospital, Bikaner, Rajasthan. Mild newlineto moderate cases of asthma were selected on the basis of pulmonary function newlineparameters as per Global Initiative for Asthma guidelines. FEV1 value was noted newlinebefore and after treatment. The patients were also evaluated by Asthma Control Test newlinescore before and after treatment by improvement in the severity of clinical symptoms newlineof asthma. newlineResults The study showed improvement in mild to moderate asthma patients after newlinegiving them homoeopathic medicine Ammi visnaga mother tincture. There was newlinestatistical and clinically significant improvement noted in FEV1 values and ACT score newlineafter treatment as P value measured in both conditions was Plt0.001. newlineConclusion Mean FEV1 value in 60 cases before treatment was 63.82% and after newlinetreatment it was 68.85%. Mean ACT score in 60 cases before treatment was 14.12 and newlineafter treatment it was 20. Significant improvement was noted in both FEV1 value and newlineACT score as Plt0.001. From the study it can be inferred that homoeopathic medicine newline Ammi visnaga mother tincture is useful in the treatment of mild to moderate cases newlineof bronchial asthma. newline
