dc.description.abstractnewline The high concentrations of uranium in groundwater are a serious hazard to the vitality of the ecosystem. The evaluation of groundwater quality is an imperative part of water security and plays a significant role in ensuring its sustainable development. The present study reveals the quality of groundwater of Durg, Bemetara and Kanker district situated in Chhattisgarh state, India. Groundwater samples from different regions were collected to observe the variation in uranium concentration with physicochemical parameters during pre and post-monsoon. The contamination of uranium in the ground water samples have been analyzed by using LED Fluorimeter LF 2A. The present study reveals that compared to the three districts, the highest uranium concentrations than the maximum contaminant level recommended by Atomic regulatory Energy Board have been found in groundwater samples collected from Bemetara district during both monsoons. The variation of uranium in groundwater depends upon the rainfall recharge and precipitation conditions of the geological formation and the environment. The radiological risk (cancer risk) of all three districts are found under the acceptable level of 10-3 while The corresponding values of hazard quotient due to ingestion of uranium in few samples of all three districts are found to be higher than the recommended level of unity, which indicates a significant risk due to chemical toxicity. The observed results clearly showed that there is no harmful effect by radiological risk, but chemical risk can affect human health. According to the study of physicochemical parameters, the groundwater of Bemetara district is harder than the other two districts. Correlation coefficient was carried out to understand the relation between uranium and physicochemical parameters in groundwater. A strong correlation coefficient of uranium with EC, TDS, TH, Ca2+ and Mg2+ is observed in all three districts. According to the piper trilinear diagram of groundwater, it has been concluded that in both Durg and
