Regulation of metastasis by parp 1 in human cancer cells in absence and presence of high let and low let radiation

Abstract

Background and method: Carbon ion radiotherapy is becoming very newlinepromising over conventional radiotherapy method because its high LET newlineproduces cluster DNA damage which is more lethal than the damage newlineproduced by low LET radiation like gamma. Moreover, it has a more perfect newlinedose localization, lesser lateral scattering, higher relative biological newlineeffectiveness (RBE) value, more effective in killing radio-resistant tumor, newlineeffective against hypoxic tumor and tumor cells irrespective of the cell cycle newlinephases etc. Increasing number of patients are being treated by carbon ion newlineradiotherapy in spite of several challenging issues yet to be resolved. Recent newlinereports show that post-operative metastasis is very less after treatment with newlinecarbon ion radiotherapy but, the numbers of studies on basic cellular and newlinemolecular mechanisms behind such treatment strategy are yet to be newlineelucidated. Very limited reports are available about cellular response against newlinehigh LET carbon ion exposure. It has been seen that inoperable tumors like newlinelung cancer can effectively treated by carbon ion. Mutation of genes like newlinep53 makes the chemotherapeutic treatment less effective or ineffective. newline
