Abstract
In recent years, lighter components with better mechanical properties and
newlinestrength are preferred in automotive, aerospace and related manufacturing
newlineindustries to meet the design requirements. The choice of a lighter material in a
newlineparticular application is governed by various factors which determine the
newlineperformance metric of the product. Nickel based super alloys have excellent
newlinemechanical properties and hence they are used for several industrial
newlineapplications. Inconel 718 alloys are a nickel-based (Ni-Cr-Fe) austenite (and#947;) alloy
newlinewhich has superior properties such as high corrosion resistance, high strength
newlineand high level of oxidation resistance. It is mainly used in nuclear reactors,
newlineaircrafts, jet engines, gas turbines and power generation applications.
newline Inconel 718 alloy components are manufactured using various
newlinemanufacturing process. Deep drawing is one of the most important manufacturing
newlineprocesses used for manufacturing components in nuclear and aerospace
newlineindustries. The process of sheet metal forming is mostly used in various
newlineindustries to deform the material into the desired shape and size. The traditional
newlinedeep drawing of Inconel 718 alloy is hard at room temperature due to its limited
newlinework efficiency and very high strength when compared with the various alloys
newlinesuch as aluminium, and steel. In this process, parameters play a crucial role in
newlinedetermining the geometrical accuracy and quality of cup.
newlineThis work initially focused on the uniaxial tensile test and the material
newlineproperties of Inconel 718 alloy sheet in the longitudinal, diagonal, and transverse
newlinerolling directions. The mechanical properties such as percentage of elongation,
newlinenormal and planar anisotropy, strain hardening exponent, strength coefficient,
newlineyield and ultimate tensile strength were determined.
