Utility of Bayesian Theorem in Homoeopathic Prescribing

Abstract

newline ABSTRACT newline newlineTitle: Utility of Bayesian Theorem in Homoeopathic Prescribing. newline newlineResearch Question: Can the application of Bayesian Theorem validate the efficacy of homoeopathic medicine statistically? newline newlineResearch Hypothesis: newline Null Hypothesis (H0): Employing techniques like the Bayesian Theorem is not useful when statistically evaluating the efficacy of prescribed homoeopathic medicine. newline newline Alternate Hypothesis (H1): Employing techniques like the Bayesian Theorem is newline useful when statistically evaluating the efficacy of prescribed Homoeopathic newline medicine. newline newlineAim: To evaluate the efficacy of Homoeopathic medicine statistically with the help of Bayesian theorem. newline newlineObjectives: newline1. To illustrate the statistical significance of the efficacy of Rhus toxicodendron in the treatment of various diseases. newline newline2. To study the application of conditional probability and its calculation while newline prescribing Rhus Tox in Lumbar Spondylosis and other diseases using newline Bayesian Theorem. newline newline3. To quantify the efficacy of Rhus Tox using the conditional probability concept newline of Bayesian Theorem. newline newline newline newline newline newlineIntroduction: newlineFor over two centuries homoeopaths have treated patients suffering from same diseases with different medicines and used one medicine for treating different diseases. The rationale for the same is given that they prescribed medicines for treating the sick person and not for the sicknesses. newline newlineThis approach of treatment is termed as Individualized Medicine in homoeopathic parlance. In justification they use terms like similimum , drug picture , totality of symptoms, conceptual image or portrait of Disease etc., expressions which in themselves are quite confusing and do not help while communicating with scientific world in the present day. The scientific concepts in homoeopathy thus gets lost. The use of old terms breaks down the communication and eventually leads to no understanding of meaning and thus results in frustration and non-acceptance of newlinehomoeopathy as scientific medicine
