Abstract
Soil is abundant on Earth, and it has been used to provide shelter to millions of
newlinepeople. Compacted stabilised adobe blocks are construction units made by adding the right
newlineamount of water to the right kind of soil and compressing it with the hand-operated or
newlinemechanically operated block making machine. The compacted soil stabilised blocks differ
newlinefrom fired earth bricks in that they do not require the use of a brick kiln, which produces a lot
newlineof pollution. They are unfired admixed soil blocks made up of soil plus stabilisers such as
newlinebinders, fibres, or a combination of both. The construction industry has already discovered a
newlinehigher performing equivalent for burnt clay bricks, namely fly ash blocks and cement blocks,
newlinewhich are commonly employed in the construction of structures. However, the manufacturing
newlineand usage of cement and cement blocks raises a number of environmental and economic
newlinechallenges.
