Synthesis Characterization and Chelating Properties of Thiazole Imidazole 8quinolinol Ligands

Abstract

The novel fused heterocyclic ligand,5-(3-(2,4-dichlorophenyl) imidazo[2,1-b]thiazol-6-yl)-8-hydroxyquinoline (DCTHQ) was synthesized by reaction between 2-amine-4-(2,4-dichlorophenyl) thiazole with 5-chloroacetyl-8-hydroxyquinoline. The transition metal chelates of DCTHQ ligand were prepared by employing Cu+2, Co+2, Ni+2, Mn+2and Zn+2 metal ions. All the ligand and its metal chelates were analysed by elemental contents, spectral features, metal:ligand ratio and magnetic properties. All the samples also were evaluated for antifungal activities. The reaction of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole with ketones in boiling AcOH/H2SO4 afforded 2-benzimidazolyl thioacetophenone derivatives. The latter sulphides were cyclized to give the corresponding thiazolo benzimidazoles using PPA or [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene. newlineThe Metal complexes of all the four ligands, 5-(3-substituted phenylimidazo[2,1-b]thiazol-6-yl)-8-quinolinol (HL1-HL4) are prapared[1-4]. The CHN-%age of metal complexes are agree with molecular skeleton shown in scheme 4.1. The data show that metal : ligand (M:L) ratio is 1:2 for all metal ions due to their bivalency. newline The derivatives (6a-e) were condensed respectively with hydroxyl amine, hydrazine, urea and thiourea. newline
