| dc.description.abstract | In the present study considerable amount of general proteins was observed in the metabolically active parasitic tissues which are involved in various synthetic activities It was concluded that lipids are not merely the end products of carbohydrate metabolism in helminth parasites but they play role in various metabolically active tissues and organs and could constitute energy resources in helminths Glycogen was reported to be the most common stored polysaccharide evenly distributed in high quantities throughout the parenchyma and has been associated with the sites of metabolic and muscular activity Acid phosphatase was observed in the tissues which are associated with absorption secretion and excretion and is postulated to be associated with these functions The presence of alkaline phosphatase in the metabolically active tissues is explained by the fact that this enzyme is associated with the membrane transport of carbohydrates which newlineconstitute the major source o f energy for these helminths | |
