Abstract
R12 has been completely phased out and globally there is a
newlinecontinuous search for alternatives The airconditioning and refrigeration
newlinesector is forced to replace the refrigerants frequently in respect of
newlineenvironmental concerns based on refrigerant emissions Many refrigerants
newlinehave been reported as alternatives R134a has been accepted as the single
newlinemajor refrigerant in the automobile industry and it has been used worldwide
newlineR134a systems use Poly Alkaline Glycol PAG as the lubricant which is
newlinesynthetic oil
newlineMany refrigerants have been reported as alternatives to R12 these
newlinecan be broadly classified as HFC and HC refrigerants These refrigerants
newlinethough environment friendly have their own disadvantages HFCs are
newlineimmiscible with mineral oil whereas HC refrigerants are flammable
newlineConsidering the safety norms HC cannot be charged above the flammability
newlinelimits HFC system use PAG oil as a lubricant
