Abstract

Electric vehicles are slowly making their way into the transportation world because they are good for the environment in a big way. But there aren t many EVs on the road, even though a lot of them are being made. It is typically discouraged to not use these vehicles due to the power factor influence they have on the grid, the fact that the battery packs do not last as long, they are expensive, and charging them is difficult. The charging process of vehicle batteries has become one of the most persistent concerns in the industry. In addition, there is a growing interest in the amount of power that is needed to meet the requirements of these vehicles. Because charging is accomplished through the use of power converter modules, there are numerous power converter topologies available in current scenarios. This research reviews the state-of-the-art of converter modules for charging EVs and suggests the best topologies for charging EV batteries. There are multiple converters that are used in one topology in order to charge a battery, provide power factor correction, and control the motor in different modes of operation. There are also some isolated and non-isolated converters used in EV applications with multiple converters or more switches to achieve the best features of EVs such as being lighter, smaller, and cheaper at a high cost and with lower efficiency. In the literature, there are converters that are used for CC or CV charging of battery packs with hard switching, higher magnetizing current, and more switching losses, which directly affect the efficiency of the charging system. newlineThis study s primary goal is to come up with new converter topologies that correct the power factor, charge the battery pack in CV and CC modes, use fewer switches, possible to get the voltage levels in such a way that EV motor can be operated in buck, boost, regenerative mode and are efficient and cost-effective.
