dc.description.abstractnewline i newlineABSTRACT newlineThe aim of the present work is to size the solar photovoltaic water pumping newlinesystem (SPVWPS) optimally for maximum discharge (liter/hour) at various pumping newlineheads, maximum pump (subsystem) and total pumping system efficiencies at optimum newlinecost. With the evolution of technology, pumping systems were designed using solar newlineenergy. Photovoltaic (PV) technology thus evolved as a new and advanced technology newlinethat converts solar energy directly into electricity, to pump out the water from the deep newlinereservoir. This technology has been proved to be an effective, reliable and newlineenvironmentally friendly method to utilize the solar energy reaching on the earth s newlinesurface to meet the pumping water needs. Moreover, the importance of solar PV energy newlineto power the water pumps increases due to the continuous depletion of oil reserves, newlineuneven distribution and ever-increasing cost of electricity, which is a major area of newlineconcern for developing countries like India. newlineChapter 2 provides detail literature survey. Due to the interdisciplinary nature newline(comprising of mechanical, electrical and electronic components, computer programs newlineand civil structures) of the SPVWPS, researchers from all the fields of engineering have newlinecontributed to making the system more efficient, cost-effective and maintenance free. newlineVarious studies and investigations have already been carried out to assess effectiveness newlineand performance parameters of site-specific design of SPVWPS, Comparative studies of newlineperformance parameters of different types of solar pumps with different types of motors, newlinedifferent ratings of PV panel and different algorithms for MPPT to optimize of overall newlineSPVWPS. Researches have been carried out to explore new concepts and design ideas to newlineenhance the effectiveness, to reduce cost and complexity and to increase longevity and newlinereliability of SPVWPS. The main components of SPVWPS like PV module and MPPT newlinecontroller show their best performance under standard test condition (STC) and pump at newlinedesign conditions of he
