This thesis provides an in depth analysis of the short stories written by prominent contemporary Indian authors in English, highlighting the growth and evolution of this genre in India. It is not intended as a comprehensive history of Indian short story nor does it encompass all contemporary Indian short story writers. Instead, the focus is on three distinguished authors Khushwant Singh, Ruskin Bond and Jhumpa Lahiri who have primarily achieved recognition for their short stories rather than novels. The study explores the themes, techniques, and stylistic nuances that distinguish their works. newlineThe thesis has been divided into five chapters which are as follows: Chapter 1 :Introduction newlineChapter2: Short Stories of Khushwant Singh Chapter 3 :Short Stories of Ruskin Bond Chapter 4 :Short Stories of Jhumpa Lahiri Chapter 5 :Conclusion newlineChapter1: Introduction newlineThis chapter serves as a foundation for analyzing the works of three major contemporary Indian short story writers: Khushwant Singh, Ruskin Bond and Jhumpa Lahiri.
