Studies on mechanical properties of wood saw dust filled hybrid indian mallow and roselle fiber yarn mat reinforced polyester composites

Abstract

During the last few years, health and environmental degradation occurs newlinedue to the polluting agents such as materialists which have also taken part by newlinereplacing harmful synthetic fibers with natural, sustainable, eco-friendly fibers for newlinereinforcement in polymer matrix is a global concern. In this regard, natural fibers newlineand natural fillers have received much more attention than ever before, from the newlineresearch community all over the world. These natural fibers offer a number of newlineadvantages over traditional synthetic fibers. Polymers can be strengthened by newlineusing natural fibers and fillers as reinforcement to enhance the better mechanical newlineproperties. In the present investigation, a new natural stem fibers as indian mallow newlinefiber derived from the locally grown indian mallow plant are taken for study to newlineunderstand the micro structural, physical, chemical, morphological, mechanical newlineand thermal properties and compared with other known natural fibers for potential newlinereplacement for polymer composites. The thesis work deals with indian mallow fiber/polyester compositesby varying the fiber weight percentages in random orientation to evaluate the newlinemechanical properties. Progressive enhancement of mechanical properties is newlineobserved in increasing the fiber content and fiber length up to 50 wt% and newline30 mm which are comparable with other natural fiber-reinforced polymer newlinecomposites. The morphology of the tensile, flexural and impact fracture surface newlineof indian mallow fiber/polyester composites through SEM image shows more newlinevoids formation, fiber detachments, randomly orientation distribution of fiber and newlinerich region of matrix. The effect of wood sawdust was studied as secondary filler newlinereinforcement in Indian mallow fiber yarn mat reinforced with polyester newlinecomposites. The indian mallow fiber double layer longitudinal orientation yarn newlinemat/wood sawdust filler/polyester composite specimen along the warp direction newlinewas found to exhibit optimum mechanical properties compared to other newlinecomposites. newline newline
