The objective of this work is the design and development of fast EV charger with improved power quality and efficiency. Detailed design and experimental validation of various new and improved versions of boost PFC based topologies like bridgeless, multilevel and interleaved topology are presented in this work. Furthermore, single phase and three phase fast EV chargers are investigated and design is extended for wide output voltage, typically 48 to 72V and 200 to 400V, respectively. Lastly, bidirectional capability of proposed fully controlled EV charger is designed, developed and demonstrated to have the ability to execute applications from the grid to vehicle G2V and vehicle to grid V2G applications. A bidirectional EV operation framework is explored that the electric vehicle acts as a load and as a source of energy both. PFC converter control technique major impacts the size and cost of charges. newlineA MATLAB Simulink analysis is performed to assess the improved circuit performance as well as the efficiency of these EV battery chargers based on unity PF charging. These EV chargers functionalities are confirmed experimentally based on the hardware prototype. At various line voltage and loading conditions, the effectiveness of PFC converter based chargers is assessed. According to the configuration and selection parameters, different input and output side quantities, device stresses, and also the voltage and current across various components, are recorded. In all stages of charging, the power quality indices are improved in accordance with international regulations, such as IEC 61000 3 2. newline newline
