Okra is an important vegetable crop throughout the tropical and sub-tropical regions and newlinespecially valued for its tender and delicious fruit in different parts of the country and is generally newlinemarketed in the fresh state, but sometimes in canned or dehydrated form. India is the largest newlineproducer of okra in the world but still the lack of genotypes having high yield, better quality and newlinetolerance to diseases like Okra Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus makes its cultivation limited. Hence, newlinethere is urgent need of research on development of new genotype having good performance and newlinehigh yield. Hence, the present investigation was carried out during rainy season (2017), summer newlineseason (2018) and rainy season (2018) at Vegetable Research Farm, Chandra Shekhar Azad newlineUniversity of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, with the objectives to assess genetic newlinevariability, inter-character association and their direct and indirect effects, heterosis, combining newlineability and gene action for different quantitative traits. A moderate to wide range of mean values newlineamong the genotypes for different characters were observed. All the genotypes showed newlinesignificant difference for the characters under study. The magnitude of PCV was slightly higher newlinethan that of GCV for all the characters. Number of primary branches per plant expressed positive newlineand highly significant association both at phenotypic and genotypic level with number of nodes newlineand number of fruits per plant. High heritability was observed for total chlorophyll content, total newlinecarotenoidss content and incidence of yellow vein mosaic virus whereas, moderate for days to newline50% flowering, first flowering nodes, plant height, number of branches per plant, number of newlinefruits per plant, number of seeds per pod and fruit yield per plant. High heritability estimates newlinecoupled with high expected genetic advance as per cent of mean were observed for total newlinechlorophyll content, total carotenoids content and for incidence of yellow vein mosaic virus. This newlineindicates substantial contribution of additive genetic variance
