Mapping of gps logs with typical transportation

Abstract

Due to urban expansion and phenomenal growth of road density in the newlinepast decades faces an inevitable experience with increased number of road newlinewars. Most of the accidents are not merely due to drivers fault, also due to newlineimproper road behaviors, traffic congestion flow characteristics, unavailable newlinetraffic guidance and climatic conditions. In urban city regions, accidents are newlinealmost frequent one in a road network and it impacts things such as human newlinesafety, socio economic activities and transportation carriers. One of the most newlinecritical problem in an urban road network is how to use the roads for safe newlinetravel. This research work presents a GIS-based framework to avoid such newlineincidents and provides a safest accessibility by identification of best routes in newlineMadurai city road network. The route selection using Google map is a newlinecommon approach to travel from one place to another place in the city. In this newlinestudy, the network models using ArcGIS is one the most effective techniques newlinefor building a road network dataset for the route selections with the newlinebackground knowledge of accident data links with the spatial network newlinestructure is to give more accurate decisions to get prioritized route matched newlinewith real world scenario. Thematic layers were prepared from GPS points in newlineaccident database, Google earth satellite images for Madurai city region. newlineThese layers were geometrically corrected and integrated in ArcGIS platform. newlineGeographic Information Systems (GIS) based spatial evaluation techniques newlinesuch as kernel density and weighted overlay method produces accident newlinehotspots and accident risk zones with four categories low, moderate, high and newlinevery high risk zones newline
