Abstract

newline Born in India and now settled in Canada, Rohinton Mistry is one of the newlineleading fiction writers of the last quarter of the twentieth century. His works have newlinebrought him worldwide recognition and won him prestigious awards. As a fiction newlinewriter, his contributions include Tales from Firozsha Baag (1987), Such A Long newlineJourney (1991), A Fine Balance (1996), Family Matters (2002) and The Scream newline(2008). The first of these is a collection of short stories, while the last one is a newlinenovella. The remaining three are novels of great repute. All these works are marked newlineby stark realism, diasporic tone, sociological concerns, humour and transparent style. newlineA careful study of these works reveals that Mistry is a conscientious writer who is newlinevery sensitive to his surroundings.
