This research work presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of the mechanical newlineperformance of woven-based thermoplastic and thermoset composites, addressing various newlineobjectives aimed at understanding their response to quasi-static and dynamic impact loads. newlineThe study systematically evaluates the mechanical properties of woven fabric-reinforced newlinecomposites, integrating various fibre types including natural fibres like flax and jute, as well newlineas high-performance fibres like basalt and glass, within both thermoplastic and thermoset newlinematrices. The research investigates the influence of reinforcement materials and matrix types newlineon the mechanical behaviour of advanced composites. Hybrid yarns, known as co-wrapped newlineyarns (CWYs), have been developed to enhance the characteristics of complex-shaped newlinecomposite parts, showing potential for cost-effective production. newlineThermoset composites demonstrate superior performance in low-strain rate (quasi- newlinestatic) mechanical tests. This advantage is attributed to the crosslinked molecular structure of newlinethermosets, which provides high stiffness and dimensional stability. These properties make newlinethermoset composites particularly suitable for applications where rigidity and stability under newlinesustained loads are critical. In contrast, thermoplastic composites excel in dynamic impact newlinescenarios, particularly out-of-plane and edge-wise impacts. Their higher ductility and newlinetoughness allow them to absorb and dissipate impact energy more effectively than thermosets, newlinemaking them ideal for applications where impact resistance is essential. newlineThe research includes a comparative study of woven-based thermoplastic and newlinethermoset composites reinforced with glass, flax, and jute fibres. E-glass fibres consistently newlineoutperform natural fibres (flax and jute) in both thermoplastic and thermoset matrices.
